The PM will be performed in accordance with OEM specifications. Below is a list of checks and calibrations that may be included.
Magnet & Cryogen System
• Check helium level and pressure stability; top off helium if needed.
• Inspect cryocooler (cold head) performance, monitor temperatures, cycle times, and vibrations.
• Verify helium compressor pressures, filter conditions, and oil levels.
Gradient & RF Systems
• Test gradient coil operation: run duty cycle and thermal diagnostics.
• Inspect gradient cooling lines, pumps, and heat exchangers for leaks or flow issues.
• Validate RF amplifier output, tuning and matching to coils, and check for arcing or abnormal noise.
Table & Mechanical Systems
• Inspect patient table travel, brakes, tilt, and weight calibration.
• Lubricate mechanical slides or screw drives as per manual (often annual or biennial).
• Test emergency stop functions and interlocks.
Coil & Imaging Checks
• Inspect patient coils for cable integrity, latches, and connector pins.
• Run coil QC tests for SNR and uniformity on key head, spine, and body coils.
• Confirm coil ID systems are detecting correctly.
Image Quality & Calibration
• Perform phantom imaging tests:
• Geometric accuracy (distortion checks)
• Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)
• Uniformity and ghosting
• Validate shim and center frequency calibration.
Electrical Safety & Grounding
• Test system chassis grounding and patient auxiliary equipment.
• Inspect cable routing to ensure no pinch or EMI risk.
Software, Logs, & Environment
• Check software versions, apply patches if scheduled.
• Review system error logs for repeated faults.
• Inspect HVAC to ensure room temp / humidity within OEM spec.
Cleaning & Infection Control
• Clean bore, table, coils, head holders, footrests with approved disinfectants.
• Vacuum console fans and cabinet filters.
Documentation & QA
• Complete PM checklist forms — include:
• Magnet pressure & level logs
• Cold head performance log
• Phantom image analysis records
• Sign off on compliance sheets for ACR accreditation / Joint Commission.
